Homelab Upgrades!

Well I’ve gotten a few upgrades for the homelab recently. I got rid of my DL180 G6 and replaced it with 2x Dell PowerEdge R410s. Now with two physical hosts I don’t have to screw around with nested ESXi boxes to play with vMotion, HA, DRS, etc.

Each server is spec’d as follows:

  • 2x Intel Xeon E5620’s @ 2.4GHz
  • 80GB RAM
  • ~1.5 – 2TB Storage
  • VMWare ESXi 6.0

I named the servers ALPHA and BRAVO because I couldn’t come up with anything more creative than that.

Also pictured in the album is a new FortiGate 60C that I got to replace my SonicWALL Tz-215 that was giving me too many issues. The FortiGate does have a UTM bundle on it so I’m rockin’ Gateway AV, IDS/IPS, App Control, etc.

I’m starting to play around more with vMotion, Distributed Switching, HA, DRS, etc within my lab now that I have my two hosts. I think after I get a good grasp on the topics I’ll start taking the class to work toward my VCP6-DCV and then possibly my CCNA/CCNP.
